Unlike many speed testing sites out there, Speakeasy focuses on American servers only and requires that Adobe Flash be installed and running for the test to commence. This eliminates the use of Speakeasy for platforms that do not support Adobe Flash technology.

That being said, this is actually a service that is simpler to navigate and preform on compared to others out there. The layout, options and steps are much less confusing and more straightforward so you can better understand the results of the speed test provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

How does it work?

Let’s start off by explaining the importance of performing a speed test. A broadband test is helpful for any individual or company that focuses highly on the internet use. That said, pretty much for any individual or company. With ISP promising specific results, it is ideal to stay consistent with your testing to assure that you are receiving the promised services and results. With Speakeasy, you have that ability to find out exactly what the perimeters of your bandwidth are, and hopefully, address any issues you have with future actions.

Focusing on four main processes during testing – Line Speed, Download Speed, Upload Speed and Percentage Completion – Speakeasy allows you to stay up to date during and after your broadband testing. Starting with the Percentage Completion, they allow you to stay updated on progress as it runs through the testing routines of your device from beginning to the end using the normal 0–100% setup.

Their Upload Speed and Download Speed test, both measured in Mbps (Megabits per second), perform in opposite methods. The Download Speed test focuses on how fast you receive the incoming data from internet browsers, the amount of data that is transferred in a second, and how fast you download the files.

The Upload Test, as stated previously, performs vice-versa. It measures the amount of data you are able to send and stream to the internet in a second, which gives you an idea of possibilities for streaming, blogging and working from your device.

Testing line speed allows you to accurately determine the rate for both downloading and uploading data to and from your system as allowed by your ISP connection. This being said, Speakeasy is a very simple version of many other speed tests on the internet. Requiring only Adobe Flash functionality and having you pick the server closest to you for the test manually, it provides a report of the data compiled throughout the test that you can download in a CSV spreadsheet format to compare previous and future tests to ensure that you are able to fully utilize your ISP’s bandwidth.
